Terms of use
Effective date: .
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of What's My Story. They are designed to protect authors, readers, and the ministry while keeping authors in control of their work.
What's My Story (“WMS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a service of Evangelism Explosion International, Inc. (“EE”), a nonprofit organization located at 10 Misty Valley Parkway, Arden, North Carolina 28704, USA.
By creating an account, submitting a story, accessing an authenticated WMS feature, or otherwise using WMS, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use WMS. If you use WMS for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are not yet the age of legal adulthood where you live, you may use WMS only with permission from a parent or legal guardian where required. WMS is not directed to children under 13.
Provide accurate information, keep your credentials confidential, and promptly tell us about unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity under your account. You may not impersonate another person, transfer an account without permission, or use WMS after we suspend or terminate your access.
Your drafts are private to you and authorized WMS staff. Submitting a story places it in the moderation workflow; it does not guarantee or immediately cause publication. We may request changes, edit with your involvement, approve, feature, decline, unpublish, restrict, or remove a story in our reasonable editorial and safety judgment.
Testimonies can reveal religious beliefs and other sensitive personal experiences. Before submitting, review your story carefully and remove information that you do not want WMS staff to process or the public to see. Selecting anonymous publication hides your chosen public name, but the content itself may still identify you or other people.
As between you and WMS, you retain ownership of the story, images, and other content you submit (“Your Content”). You give EE a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, adapt for accessibility, edit for clarity and safety, translate, display, distribute, and promote Your Content through WMS and EE-controlled channels for the purpose of operating and promoting WMS and EE's ministry.
This license begins when you provide Your Content and continues while it is stored or published through WMS. If you ask us to remove Your Content and we agree, the license ends for new uses after removal, except that we may retain limited copies in backups, audit or legal records, and materials already produced or distributed. We cannot control copies made by search engines, visitors, or other third parties while a story was public.
You also permit us to display the author name, anonymous label, location, profile image, and other public details you choose in connection with an approved story. You do not give us permission to sell Your Content as a standalone work.
You represent and warrant that:
You may not use WMS to:
We may review content and activity, but we are not obligated to monitor everything. We may reject, edit, unpublish, block, preserve, or remove content and may limit, suspend, or terminate accounts when we reasonably believe it is necessary to enforce these Terms, protect people or the service, respond to reports, or comply with law. We may preserve evidence and cooperate with lawful investigations.
If you voluntarily give us ideas or feedback about WMS, you permit EE to use them without restriction or compensation. This does not apply to the story content license described above.
You agree that we may send service-related messages, including verification, security, password-reset, moderation, publication, and account notices. You may optionally connect an eligible EE account through an explicit consent flow. EE and WMS retain separate credentials and systems; connecting does not give WMS your EE password. You can disconnect from your WMS settings.
WMS, its software, design, branding, and content supplied by EE are owned by EE or its licensors and protected by law. Subject to these Terms, EE gives you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to access WMS for its intended personal and ministry purposes. No other rights are granted.
If you believe content on WMS infringes your copyright, email contact@eeworks.org with your contact information, identification of the protected work and disputed material, the location of that material, a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorized, a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and you are authorized to act, and your physical or electronic signature. We may remove content and terminate repeat infringers where appropriate.
WMS depends on third-party hosting, authentication, email, and security providers and may link to websites we do not control. Their terms and policies may apply to their services. We are not responsible for third-party content or services, except as required by law.
Stories express personal experiences and do not provide medical, mental-health, legal, financial, pastoral, or other professional advice. WMS is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or another person may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or an appropriate crisis resource.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, WMS is provided “as is” and “as available.” EE disclaims all express and implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, security, and that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We do not endorse or guarantee user stories or other user content.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, EE and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, affiliates, and licensors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill, or opportunities, arising from or related to WMS, even if advised that such damages are possible.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, their total aggregate liability for all claims relating to WMS will not exceed the greater of US $100 or the amount you paid EE specifically for WMS during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless EE and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, and affiliates from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and reasonable legal fees arising from Your Content, your violation of these Terms, your misuse of WMS, or your violation of another person's rights. EE may control the defense of a covered claim, and you agree to cooperate. This section does not apply where prohibited by law.
You may stop using WMS at any time. Authors may delete their account through the dashboard, or you may ask us to close your account by emailing contact@eeworks.org. Staff accounts require administrator assistance. We may suspend or end access as described in these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive—including licenses for retained copies, ownership, disclaimers, limitations, indemnification, and dispute terms—will survive.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Unless applicable law requires otherwise, courts located in Buncombe County, North Carolina will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from or related to WMS, and you consent to their jurisdiction and venue.
We may change or discontinue features and may update these Terms. We will post updated Terms with a revised date and provide additional notice when required. Changes apply prospectively. Continuing to use WMS after updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the complete agreement between you and EE about WMS unless another written agreement applies. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be modified only as needed and the rest will remain effective. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; EE may assign them as part of an organizational change. Headings are for convenience only.
