Unexplainable Peace
"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:7
I'm glad I have eternal life because it gives me peace, and that peace is not based on my circumstances.
A few years back, I spent a weekend at the beach with my wife and kids and several other family members. We had a great time! The weather was great, and the company was even better. It's easy to experience peacefulness during such times. However the fun was interrupted by a phone call. My uncle called and said that my aunt had been admitted to the hospital. Soon after, we found that she had cancer. We were told that the cancer was so advanced that treatment was unlikely to be effective. My aunt died less than two weeks after the diagnosis. Circumstances in life can change so quickly, but the presence of God can bring peace in the midst of all of it. During the last days of my aunt's life, it was difficult. Many tears were shed. There was pain and heartache, but there was also an unexplainable sense of joy and peace knowing that God was right there with us in the middle of that terrible circumstance. Even my aunt expressed joy at the thought of what awaited her when her earthly life came to a close.
The assurance of eternal life brought my aunt much peace in her darkest days, and that same peace is something that I can experience everyday because I know for certain that I will be with God in Heaven someday.
