Travis' Testimony
I was a hopeless athletics devotee, then i found true worth and purpose in Jesus Christ my Lord.
Before i received eternal life i was hopelessly self-centered.
There were many idols in my life as a non-believer, yet the chief object of my worship was sports. Athletics and competition have always been a significant priority in my family and as a kid it was my “cathedral” – my outlet for finding significance and fulfillment.
When I was a sophomore in High School I started to attend the FCA Huddle at my High School. Ironically, I thought that I would fit in perfectly because I assumed I was a Christian. Yet over the next year or so I was deeply confronted about the sin in my life and the obvious inconsistency between that confession and the way I was living. Because of the testimony of my older brother, a close friend, and my 2 FCA Huddle Coaches, I came to a crossroads: I understood that I could no longer live the life I was living and claim to be a Christian. It had to be one or the other. As a senior in High School I experienced the miracle of regeneration and I trusted in Christ for my righteousness.
I can see the sweetness of God’s Providence in the way that he used the brokenness and sin in my family to draw me to Himself and how, in spite of that brokenness, He spared me from gross sin and kept me ever near to Himself. I have experienced the reality of true redemption that is possible through our Lord Jesus Christ.
My athletic career was long and successful, yet in constant threat of ending due to injury. Nonetheless, i was at rest, because i no longer found my identity in my athletic achievements.
I have experienced the reality of true redemption that is possible through our Lord Jesus Christ.
