Transformation through total surrender of the flesh
When we get saved, we acknowledge Jesus Christ is Lord and accept eternal life. While we on earth, we have to give up our potential futures and ideas and first seek God's kingdom and allow Him to give everything else, this is called total surrender, and it's hard because we only have faith and hope when we give up what we could do in our own power to let Him do what He wills for our lives. When we end up realizing that what we want to do we don't do, and what we don't want to do we do, that's the point where we need to volunteer to crucify our flesh, desires, ideas, fantasies, logic and with no compromise and holding back beat our bodies and mind by depriving them of their own wants and feed the spirit with the truth of God. It works, but you have to be willing to total surrender with no compromise.
I am more conscious that I am a spirit being with a mind and live in a body. That one day i will leave the body behind and my spirit will live forever. With that in mind i am aware that my spirit is in power and control and not my body, so i conduct my life in such a way to benefit God and my spirit rather than give in to the desires of the flesh.
I was born again from a young age so it goes without saying that there was a lot of understanding i had to learn as i would grow. I was taught how to conduct myself as a christian but i realized that it got harder as I grew up and as i got more independent and had to start making decisions for myself rather than hiding behind the ideas and beliefs of my parents. I would still get a lot of things wrong and would learn some life's lessons through trial and error. What i did know however was that sometimes there are forces against us that create trouble in our lives, but there are also inherent weaknesses in the flesh as well as limited knowledge and ignorance in our thinking and that too creates it's own trouble. After praying and trusting God there were things I still struggled with and didn't understand why some battles would never flea. I did my best to resist the devil so he could flea but for a long time it felt as though he was just too strong and had a hold on me in that i couldn't resist certain things that had become a bad habit. I am talking specifically about lust and over eating. I was a christian but for many years struggled with self control and for many years i knew that the person i was when i was alone was not the persona i displayed to the public. I knew inside i was weak and was defeated and didn't know how to save myself nor understood why God was not eliminating these desires in my flesh. One day I heard a sermon on fasting and how some spirits can only be cast out through fasting and prayer, i also learnt that as a spirit when we fast we learn to deprive the flesh of what it craves and feed our spirit with the truth which is the word of God. I spent the next three days in fasting like i had never done before, i only had one snack a day which was just two or three fruits. After that i realized my spirit is stronger than i though and my body can take the pain of no food so i spent the next six days eating nothing and only drinking water and herbal tea. I saw the power that God has given us in our spirits and that some troubles are coming from a lack of discipline and self control, and these stem from the flesh and not necessarily evil spirits. I was stronger after this and could manage disciplining the flesh, i could subdue my body and tell it what i'm going to feed it and when. God tells me how to conduct my life, my spirit has said yes to that but i used to fail because i would give in to the contrary demands of the flesh. I am not fully where i need to be regards that control but i can say i have subdued the lust, the eating is getting better my diet is changing and i am still working on my work ethic so that can also represent the spirit of working as though i am working for God and not let my hands idle in laziness and incompetency. I fast on a regular now to keep my spirit where it should be, so i don't backslide because the bible says we must pray always, not sometimes. My life is still transforming from ill-discipline and lack of self-control to diligent, disciplined and total self-control. I am patiently becoming the leader i am called to be and will one day teach others about how the things of God can and will transform us when we fully give ourselves away without compromise.
I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior and confident that this is all I had to do to accept the place in heaven that he has purchased for me with the blood shed on the cross
