The Pursuit of Perfection
After spending years chasing personal perfection without coming close to achieving it, the grace of God helped me understand that I am only made perfect through Jesus Christ.
Knowing that my eternal life was secured by the perfect blood of Jesus Christ frees me from a relentless pursuit of perfection in my life to earn God's favor.
Even though I trusted in Jesus Christ at a young age, I grew up thinking that I could achieve perfection in my life. Because of that, I always feared failing. I remember in high school when a close friendship of mine fell apart because of my pride, and I realized that my very nature precluded me from ever becoming fully perfect on my own. I began to understand God's grace in that time, that He didn't expect me to be perfect, and actually wanted to use my failures to point me to Him and teach me that my perfection comes only through trusting in Jesus, who is eternally perfect.
It gives me great hope to know that my eternal life is not based on my own efforts at perfection. Instead, I put the full weight of my trust in knowing that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, died on the cross for my sin, and rose again so that I am reconciled to God and will live eternally in heaven with Him.
