The Coin Flip
Life is not a "coin flip." God has always had a plan for my life.
As a child and young adult, I viewed my life as a coin toss.
It was simple, "heads or tails." My parents would stay married or they would divorce. I would do well in school, or not. I would be able to go to college, or not. I would meet the person for me and "live happily ever after", or not. I saw no plan for me, no future with my best interest at its center. Life was "fifty/fifty," "heads or tails," "good or bad." I believed God existed, but I had no idea that He might care about someone as insignificant as me.
In 1966, the man who installed our dishwasher, invited me to church. I heard the gospel there and accepted Christ as my savior.
My God is not arbitrary and as a child of the King, I know that He has always been and will continue to direct my path.
In my professional life, God has led me clearly and faithfully. Once I interviewed for a position in the organization in which I had been a successful employee for many years. I was the choice of the interview committee, but those in higher authority chose another candidate. I was crushed and angry. As it turned out, the Lord's protection was with me because in the next two years three people were hired for that position and none were successful. Two years later, I interviewed for a similar position and the Lord blessed me with a largely Christian staff and we served together for over fourteen years.
As a child of the King, I know that He will continue to direct my path. Even what appears to be failures can be turned into victories when I surrender to Him. My life is not a game of chance. It has been planned for me by Jesus. When I reach the end of my time on Earth, I know that I will be with Him. That has be His ultimate plan for me all along.
