Shalom! I want to thank God for His love, grace and mercy on my life. When I was about 11 years old, I almost drowned while playing in a river during one of the picnics that my family used to have. Praise the Lord, my father noticed that I was struggling underwater and he pulled me out of the water just in the nick of time. About a year later, one night, I felt pain in my stomach and thought that it was probably something that I ate. Due to lack of medical facilities at the place where I stayed, my parents gave me some medicine for stomach ache. That night I was still in pain and couldn’t sleep. The next morning, I still went to school thinking that it was just another stomach ache. However, it got worse and I felt really sick in class. The following day, my father brought me to a clinic and I was diagnosed that I had appendicitis. I was rushed to the nearest hospital and a surgery was performed to remove my appendix. By then, the situation had developed into acute appendicitis and it was on the verge of rupturing. I was told that if it had ruptured my life would have been threatened. Again, thank God I was saved just in the nick of time. When I was 16 years old, my elder brother who was already a Christian, shared the Gospel to me and I believed and received Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Looking back, I now realise that if I had not been rescued from my drowning in the first incident or operated on in time in the second, I would have died without any assurance of salvation and the free gift of eternal life in heaven. However, now I can confidently say that if anything were to happen to me again, I will be allowed into God’s heaven because of my faith in the finished work of Jesus who died on the Cross for my sins and rose again the third day. Although life had thrown me a few crises since then, I have the privilege of enjoying the abundant life that Jesus had promised in the Bible. It is all because of God’s grace and not something that I could earn or deserve based on any good works that I may have done. I pray that you will also desire this free gift of eternal life in heaven. Glory to God in the highest! Raphael Lim 26th June 2021
