Selfish to selfless
I was a self centered, egotistical, self indulging man who cared very little for others. Selling out to Christ is my single greatest achievement He has changed everything in my life.
Before I received the gospel I was empty and without purpose, I was constantly seeking cheap thrills, and feeding my addictions and bad habits, my self centeredness lead to marriage problems and money problems with grief and constant regrets.
I remember when my second marriage failed, I had lost my job, my dog and now my wife and kids. I even contemplated suicide, remember crying out to God and telling Him I was tired of doing things my way and I wanted to do them His way. Things began to change. Some immediate and some took time.
Then my best friend Josh started picking me up and driving me to church, he spoke to me a lot about eternal life and how we are all eternal beings who will live forever and that it’s up to us to decide where we will spend eternity.
As a result of receiving eternal life I no long seek selfish vain things, I find fulfillment in living for others and serving.
When my grandfather passed away a few years back I remember one of the last things he said to me was “keep Jesus first in your life” we only had a small handful of conversations between then and the time he went to be with The Lord. I spoke at his funeral and recited “God made a farmer” by Paul Harvey and the entire experience was far more manageable knowing that I will get to see him again one day.
There is definitely a confidence that comes with the knowledge of the afterlife, and no longer being a slave to fear. My goal is to finish strong.
Your testimony matters too
