Saving Grace

Before I received eternal life I was always anxious of what will happen in the future. Though I was busy with my career and different activities I felt empty and without purpose and that brought about stress and feeling burned-out.

I remember myself in a dark situation where I lost my faith in God. It lasted for years. In those lost and hopeless years I felt like there was no reason to live. I remember getting out of bed one morning feeling miserable and empty. In that moment I realized that apart from God, life has no meaning.

Then I watched a Filipino pastor explaining a topic about assurance of faith and definitely that change my whole view about eternal life. I watched more preachings about salvation and eternal life and brought to knowing some known pastors like John McArthur, John Piper, Ravi Zacharias and Paul Washer. These pastors and through their powerful messages I came to fully grasped that indeed eternal life is a gift from God which we can never deserve or earn and by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ that I am saved.

Now that I have eternal life, I don't worry about the future. I also lost my appetite on material things and dreams of professional success. Sure that I still give my best effort in everything I do but unlike before now I know that God guides my heart to work and be content for His glory alone.

Before, I was always anxious about being perfect specially at work. I want everything to happen the way I planned it. One time at work my supervisor called me accusing me about something that I knew in my heart that was not my fault. I prayed to God about it and an overwhelming peace and assurance protected my heart from any feeling of anxiety or fear. I can remember that time I was not afraid or anxious at all. Praise God! From that moment I realized God is changing my heart. He allowed circumstances like that to fortify us and to always reassure us that in everything we do, we should always give Him our full trust. Our main purpose is to glorify Him alone in everything we do.

I know in my heart that I repented on my sins and received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Through God's grace and through faith in His one and only son I am saved not by my works or own will but by the power of His sacrifice on the cross. He is the author and perfecter of my faith. I know that when the time comes that I'll die I will go to heaven because God's word is true and eternal.
