Saved by Grace, Not Performance
After years of battling OCD, depression, and chronic illness while trying to earn God’s approval, I discovered that salvation is a gift of grace through Jesus Christ — and that I am loved, secure, and saved not because of my performance, but because of His finished work.
Before I truly understood God’s grace, my life was defined by fear, depression, and the constant belief that I was broken and disappointing to Him.
As a teenager, anxiety and OCD consumed my thoughts, and chronic illness drained my body. My faith was driven by fear instead of love. I believed I had to earn God’s approval by praying more, doing more, being better. At the same time, depression became overwhelming. By sixteen, I was battling self-harm and suicidal thoughts, crying alone at night and feeling completely hopeless. I loved God, but I was terrified of Him. I felt trapped in my mind, exhausted in my body, and convinced something was deeply wrong with me.
I received eternal life when I stopped trying to earn God’s love and placed my full trust in Jesus Christ as my Savior, accepting His grace as a gift instead of something I had to deserve.
After receiving eternal life, I now live with hope, peace, and the confidence that I am deeply loved by God — not because of what I do, but because of what Jesus has already done.
There are still nights when my body hurts and my mind feels heavy, but they are no longer filled with the same hopelessness. Instead of spiraling into fear that I’ve failed God, I remind myself that my salvation is secure. When OCD tries to tell me I haven’t done enough, I can recognize that voice and choose truth instead. When depression whispers that I’m worthless, I hold onto the reality that I belong to God and that my life has purpose. I’ve learned to rest without guilt, to ask for help, and to trust that God is near even when nothing feels fixed. The difference is not that my circumstances became easy — it’s that I now face them with hope instead of despair. I have peace in knowing my future is secure in Christ, and that gives me strength to keep going, even on the hardest days.
Because I have placed my trust in Jesus Christ alone for my salvation, I know with certainty that I have eternal life. My hope is not in my performance, my strength, or my ability to be “good enough,” but in what He has already accomplished for me. I am fully confident that when I die, I will be with Him in heaven forever.
