Peace and Contentment
My story is about how God can turn doubt and being unsatisfied with life into peace and absolute assurance of eternity and the indescribable peace that comes with it.
I struggled with being angry, self-centered, and just had a general sense of insecurity about what direction to go in life and largely just lacked peace and contentment.
I had a wonderful homelife and many good things in my life, but I generally just was not very happy on the inside. I put all of my focus on materialistic things, other people, or activities to try and have contentment. My focus always was on external things like how well I played in the last baseball game, the material things I had, or who I was associated with. Nothing really was ever good enough.
I grew up in the church and I knew what the correct path was. I just always resisted giving up that control. I really was just running from God until one night my Senior year in High School the weight of all of the things I was not content with and the confusion over the direction I wanted to go was overwhelming. I found myself late one night with one of the teachers that taught teens in my church, and she talked with me until I really knew I would continue on the path I was on or pray for salvation.
Just simply having the peace of knowing one's eternal destination and having the confidence of knowing that promise is true no matter what we encounter in our lives is an incredible gift.
For myself there is not really any one story over another that exemplifies that peace other than just through many different life changes, family events, family stresses, and worries just simply the peace that no matter the outcome my eternal destination and future was secured.
I have told people many times that I have not always been faithful to God, but he has always been faithful to me. As I look back at the many twists and turns of life, I can see the times when there were decisions made or events that did not happen that probably should have and didn't and the only explanation is God was present. It is evident without a doubt God has been there and has protected me and delivered me through trials. It is the peace that I keep going back to that can only come from the absolute assurance of knowing without a doubt if I were to die this day my forever will be with my Savior.
