My Testimony
Before accepting Jesus into my heart, I was doing whatever I wanted to make myself happy. I depended on tangible things, external factors, and romantic relationships to distract me from myself and keep me happy. This all led to anxiety, shame, victim mentality, low self-esteem, fear, and a dislike for myself. I looked into self-help and other solutions of the world to help me, but they all failed. It was not until I met my husband, who was a Christian, that I accepted and received eternal life from Jesus Christ. And I'm so full of joy that I can never go back to the way I was. Today, I admit I'm not perfect and still tend to stumble into sin, but I know God is continuing to work on me and I can come to Him asking for His help and forgiveness. Every day I see His blessings and ways He is speaking to me. Not only has He transformed me, but has freed me from the enemy's lies. All glory to God!
Before I accepted Jesus into my heart, I was doing whatever I wanted to make myself happy, which led to anxiety, shame, low self esteem, fear, and more.
Growing up as a Catholic, my mother would make me go to church but I never quite understood why I was going. Rather than listening and relating to what the priests were preaching, I would fall asleep out of boredom. I never really understood the bible(let alone attempt to read it) and the power of prayer. I had really strict parents so I was more inclined to be rebellious in my teens. I thought I was a good kid because I was getting good grades, participated in sports and clubs, wasn’t doing drugs, and was overall kind to others. But I was very disobedient to my parents. I was immature, had low self esteem, and was a people pleaser. In college, I became very interested in "self-help" and was looking for answers on how I can better myself as a person. I was also looking for answers on how to live peacefully and happily, but whatever answers I found didn't work. I still felt empty- that something was still wrong. I continued to feel insecure, anxious, and so much more negative things about myself. Even though it looked like I had it together, deep down, my soul was broken.
It was not until I met my husband, who grew up as a Christian, that he mentioned we should start going to church together because in the beginning of the pandemic we were struggling a lot in our relationship. I also had moved out of my parent’s house, which led me to have a better relationship with my mom. I would message her about the problems I was facing and she would always let me know that she was praying for me and she encouraged me to pray as well. With all these signs to pray more and go to church, I looked into Christianity, started to watch believers’ testimonies on Youtube, started to pray more, and accepted Jesus as my Savior. Then there was one night I had my eyes closed in bed and I had God on my mind. All of a sudden I heard Him say to me that He was my Father. And it was not until months later when I was watching a particular testimony on Youtube, that I felt His forgiveness and started crying and was so moved by the Holy Spirit. I never felt so much love, but at the same time, so much sadness because of the way I was living. All those times I was not only rebellious to my parents and to the people I loved, but to Him, and ignoring Him, and not getting to fully know Him. All those times I looked at other resources on what my purpose was and how to live a fulfilling life, when the answers were right in the Bible. I felt very unworthy, but He was always there for me and has given me so much blessings and forgiveness I didn't deserve.
After receiving eternal life, I'm so full of joy that I can never go back to the way I was. I am free because of Jesus' unfailing love.
Now I know that I am to live my life for Him because He sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He saved me from myself and from the enemy's lies I believed all these years. We didn’t deserve this love because we disobeyed Him, but He forgave us and is still giving us so many chances so that we can have everlasting life with Him in Heaven. Today, I'm still learning on how I can be a better servant and live my life for Him. I admit I'm not perfect and still tend to stumble into sin, but I know He is continuing to work on me and I can come to Him asking for His help and forgiveness. Every day I see His blessings and ways He's speaking to me. He's helped me in my mental health, in my relationship with my parents, in my marriage, in my addictions, in my finances, in my friendships, and so much more. All glory to God!
Now that I finally have a relationship with God and sincerely accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, I find joy and comfort in knowing that I have eternal life and will someday be united with Him in heaven.
