My Testimony
Life is fragile. We need to walk with God and accept the free gift of eternal life that is available to us.
Before I became assured of eternal life, I did not give much thought to the frailty of human life; that it can be changed suddenly and without warning and that we owe a lot to God's saving grace.
A few years ago, I was living in Georgia with my husband and two sons. It was summer and we were driving to New York for a wedding. We had done those road trips several times before and we loved them. That day started off just like so many others. Everything was going fine until we reached New Jersey. Then my husband complained of a headache. After that, I noted that he was driving in the center lane and the other vehicles were moving around us, and he remained there even though I suggested that he should perhaps go into the right lane. We were heading towards the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. I started to experience a sense of dread and unease, and I prayed that we would get to our destination quickly. Suddenly he said that he wanted to go through Newark and head to the Holland Tunnel instead of the Bridge. We entered Newark and stopped at a McDonald's. It was then that I witnessed a swift deterioration of his condition. I took the keys from him and told him that he should not continue driving. I thought that he was just simply exhausted, but then I recognized symptoms that caused me to dial 911. Even though he had driven into that parking lot a short while before, he left the parking lot in an ambulance headed to the trauma center at University Hospital less than ten minutes away, and straight into surgery. He had suffered a massive stroke and his next ride was from the hospital to a funeral home. I often ponder on what could have happened if we had got onto the bridge that night and he had begun to experience the debilitating symptoms while driving across the bridge. If we had all been taken out of this world that night, I don't think that my answer to the question about whether I knew for sure that I have eternal life would have been a confident yes, so I resolved to have a closer walk with God.
Since then, I have taken the Share Your Faith Workshop and learned how to be sure that I have eternal life.
Now I rest easy in the assurance that eternal life is assured for me.

If we had all died that night, I don't think that my answer to the question about whether I knew for sure that I have eternal life would have been confident and affirmative. Now I know that Jesus Christ has purchased that place for us and it is free.
