My Testimony
I was a great sinner in need of a great Savior. The Lord caused me to see this through the reading of His word and the preaching of the gospel.
Before I turned to Jesus, I was extremely proud. I didn’t recognize my need of any help whatsoever. I believed I could take care of myself, that I was invincible. I was not concerned about death, because I felt that I could avoid it. I was not concerned about sickness, I had beat all of them before. I did not recognize my need for a Savior at all. I did not recognize the greatness of God, or of Jesus, or of the Spirit.
I had always been provided for and taken care of. When I was in college, my parents stopped providing as much as they were. I was working the graveyard shift at UPS during one seasonal shift. I went home early in the morning, failing classes that I was enrolled in, addicted to drugs, addicted to selfishness and I realized how far this life was going to take me in the wrong direction. I needed help and I didn’t know where to turn.
Sometime later, I realized that the previous professions of faith that I had made were weak and of no consequence. I turned to Jesus in faith and repentance and he saved me out of my sin and adopted me into his family.
Jesus rescued me from my sins when I repented of them and turned to him in faith. I have assurance that I have been rescued and have been adopted into the family of God. I have been justified in the sight of God because of the righteousness of Jesus. His righteousness has been imputed to me and my sins imputed to him.
I have sinned many times since coming to know Jesus in a saving way, but the Spirit has always convicted me of that sin and caused me to turn back in confession, repentance and a renewed faith. This despair over my sin causes me to know the true, changed condition of my heart.
I know that the Lord keeps his word. He is a promise keeping God. He says that if you repent of your sins and turn to Jesus in faith, you will be saved. I have done this and therefore I know that I am a child of God.
