My Testimony
I'm a sinner and a recovering perfectionist, and God's grace and forgiveness are the only things that can free me up to actually be the person He created me to be.
God's gift of eternal life has freed me from the need to find fulfillment in my own successes and has taken me on greater adventures than I could have imagined for myself.
I have excelled at academics my entire life, and my accomplishments were celebrated regularly and publicly. Those successes, though, set me up for a lifetime of anxiety about missing the mark, about being less than perfect, about public failure. I graduated college with a laundry list of achievements next to my name, got married, and set off on my next great success story.... only to find closed doors around every turn. The only open doors took me down a road that was spiritually and emotionally dark, my own personal Valley of the Shadow of Death. But God used my inabilities and my weaknesses to show me He created me to be so much more than a high-achiever. Now, my greatest accomplishments have come at times when I am most out of my league, relying desperately on God for guidance, and in areas far from my strongest abilities. I still struggle with anxiety and a need to do all things at a high level, but God has surrounded me with people who love me at my lowest and give me the grace I'm not always able to give myself.
I've believed in Jesus since before I can remember. But God became real to me at 13, and I knew I needed Him as my Savior. And the more I know Him, the more I need Him.
