My Personal Testimony
Filling a void with Jesus; rather than worldly things.
Before I received eternal life, I felt as if I was constantly searching for "something" and that left me feeling empty.
I had made some bad decisions after graduating high school. At this time in my life, my dad worked a lot and my mom and I had a struggling relationship. I was lonely. In order to fill this emptiness, I clung to a group of friends. I did what they did. I thought they were like "family" and I looked to them to fill the void I had in my heart. I remember the distinct moment I asked God to save me (Again!). My long time childhood friend, of whom I distanced myself during this time, came over to visit. She had always struggled with her grades in school, and did not think about college. I tell you this, only to give an example of the Holy Spirit at work. That day, she came to tell me that she had been accepted to Baylor University only due to the fact that her dad had a "connection". Up to this point, I had never given a thought to "going off" to college. I thought I was happy in my sin, and that was the life I was going to lead. This friend encouraged me to apply to Baylor. She said it would be fun for us to go to college together, being I had known her since I was 5 years old. So, after she left, I went to my computer and applied. One week later, I was accepted. I tell you this because if God had not had my friend only be able to attend Baylor, I probably wouldn't have gone there. When I got to Baylor, I was required to attend chapel 3 days a week. It was an actual grade! This was my first time to EVER attend a worship service on a regular basis. I had only been to church in Easter and maybe Christmas. It was during these times that I actually saw people worshiping God. Raising their hands, and bowing their heads to pray. I was moved. In tears. That day my friend came and asked me to apply, I prayed to God that I needed Him. I was ashamed at the choices I had made. I hadn't been living right, and I needed Him to save me and get me to somewhere I could learn how to be a Christian. Since that day, God has led me. He sends me little reminders that tell me, "Hey, I'm here with you. You are not alone. Keep following Me."
I learned at the age of 5 years old (from that same friend) how to accept Christ. I did, but only because she encouraged me to. The next time, 13 years later, I meant it. I knew I could only have eternal life, through Jesus Christ. And I needed to live for Him.
Now, I no longer search to fill that void in my heart. I am never alone, and I am secure in my faith. I trust a loving Savior that never leaves me.
I could have chosen to keep making bad decisions, and felt ashamed my whole life. But, I wake up every day and thank God for my life. I am married, a mother, and a part of a wonderful church. I could have ended up in a terribly dark place. I have an unending joy, and peace in my heart.
I have joy and peace, because I know that if I died today I would go to Heaven and be worshiping my Father in Heaven for eternity. Never feeling lonely, restlessly searching, or ashamed.
