My Personal Testimony

Before receiving eternal life, I have a fear of dying.

During the May 1969 racial riots in my country, my father's response to hearing gun shots in the distance frightened me. He bolted our doors and passed me slips of paper with addresses of his brothers who had emigrated overseas, telling me to keep them securely and if anything happened to him, I was to look for them. I was only 11 years old at that time, I remembered that night I cried and could not sleep, fearing death would come for me and my family.

Then one day, I received the gift of eternal life.

Now that I have eternal life, I no longer feared death.

Early one morning, my phone rang, and the caller asked me not to go to work and to stay home because there was some shooting in the city centre. I was no longer afraid of dying and went to work anyway. There were less than 10 colleagues who showed up for work that morning. It was only later in the morning that the police announced that an army officer had gone amok and was shooting randomly with his gun. He had since been apprehended and the police encouraged everyone to get on with their routine. I realised that I was no longer afraid of death.

If I were to die right now, I know that I will be with God in heaven.
