My Personal Testimony
Today, I still face difficult, fearful situations. I am, however, better about letting God control the situation in his own timing. When you are afraid, turn to God. He will comfort and protect you.
I'm glad I have eternal life because it provides the confidence I need to face my fears.
At around the time of my first marriage I began to realize what a true relationship with Jesus Christ was all about. You see, the marriage was toxic. My now ex was physically, verbally and emotionally abusive. Meanwhile, I became more and more codependent, basing my whole existence on how my husband would react. I tried to say pleasing things, not talk too fast and be an all around good wife. This did not work. As I tried to control the situation, the walls of the already poisoned relationship were falling down around me. Turning to counselors, self-help books, family and well meaning friends, helped, but was not the answer. It was then that I turned to God. God comforted me during the darkest years of my life. He loved me unconditionally giving me the strength to face my fears and physically separate from my husband after 5 years of marriage. From here, I waited on God's timing. After 3 years of being separated from my husband, I felt that God was telling me to end the marriage for good. This in and of itself was scary for me. Since I had many friends and family in the Christian community, I was worried about what they would think. Nonetheless, after the divorce was final, I felt like a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders. God helped me face my fears and also forgave me for the sins that I was responsible for in the marriage.
The same peace that God gave me in that situation is with me every day of my life. I know without a doubt that God is with me and I will one day be in heaven with him.
