My personal testimony
I thought everlasting life was earned by being good.
Before I received eternal life, I thought I just needed to be a good person and that my scale needed to tip in favor of good (versus bad) when I die.
I remember sitting in the woods during an R.O.T.C. training camp my junior year of college when my friend, Michelle, asked me what do I believe and how do I know I will get to heaven; I answered with my "good works" answer.
Michelle shared with me that it's not at all about my good works and she started turning my wheels about how to receive eternal life. I ended up receiving eternal life six years later just before getting married.
Now that I have eternal life I know that it's not about being "good."
Even now as a Christian, I don't do good all the time; I still mess up often!
But now my life is full of grace and freedom not pressure to be or do good. And I know that I have eternal life and that I'm going to heaven when I die.
Your testimony matters too
