From down the wrong path / To My True Calling

I worked in the beer industry for an Anheuser-Busch Wholesaler (22 years). I left the beer industry to pursue other opportunities. My dream at that time was to have my own business. I tried two different business opportunities, but had no success. After trying for several months, I was reading my bible one night and prayed to God for an answer and asked for guidance and direction. I had just started reading the Bible after my friend gave it to me as a gift. I would close my bible, then put my hand on top of it and say, “God, what do you want to teach me tonight?” I opened to Proverbs 16:2. The word “motives” got my attention. Then I asked myself, “What is my motive for wanting to have a business?” Then the thought came to my mind. “I died and went to heaven and God asked me what have I learned and what have I done with my life?” I heard myself tell God, “Well God, I helped myself reach financial freedom along with many others.” It then hit me that that’s not who I am and that is definitely not what I would want to tell God after my life is over. We need money to live, but money is not what motivates me! I broke down into tears that night and it’s a night I will never forget!! When they say the Bible is alive and active, it truly is! It was like God had reminded me of who I am and he put me on the right path again. Having my own business is not what I wanted afterall. While looking for a job, I had a bad feeling come over me that wouldn’t go away. This feeling of I needed to get to my brother ASAP! I called my brother to make sure he was ok, which he was but I did a surprise visit just to be sure. While visiting with my brother, he told me that he was looking at different nursing homes due to his Huntington’s Disease. I knew he really wanted to stay in his apartment, but couldn’t live alone. Since I didn’t have a job yet, we decided that I would move in to help him, then he would be able to stay in his apartment. I lived with my brother and took care of him for 7 months. While living with my brother, I went for a walk one day around his apartment complex. I felt something come over me like a voice saying, “walk up here”. I looked around and nobody was there. I laughed to myself and thought I must be hearing things. I walked up this one street for only a couple blocks. There was this “Jesus sign” on the grass, which got my attention. While looking at it, I heard a man behind me say hello. He asked me if I like the sign. I found out that he and his wife are Pastors and that their house is a home church. They had bible study at their house every Saturday night. I started attending their bible study for a few weeks. It was a very small group, but very nice! We would pray together for each other’s needs before leaving. Things started getting bad living with my brother and I knew I wouldn’t be able to take care of my brother much longer. His Huntington’s was progressing and he was getting more unsteady on his feet. I knew that he would need more care than I could give him. One night at my bible study, a woman came to check it out since she had heard about them and found them online. She was a very nice lady and she and the others would pray for me knowing that I needed a full-time job, as well as a place to live. Weeks went by and it seemed like nothing was happening. I kept on praying and hoping God would answer. Then one day, that woman from the Bible study group called me. She told me she saw an Ad on Craig’s List that made her think of me. She called me and told me about the Ad because she knew that I liked taking care of people. She told me to contact them, which I did and I have NO regrets to this day!!! Home Helpers was a prayer answered and a Dream come true!! “Making A Difference” is what I’m all about!!

Ever since I accepted Jesus into my heart as my Lord and Savior, my life has never been the same!

I now live My Life to Serve!

Being a caregiver has been truly an amazing journey and a dream come true!

I am a born again Christian who lives my life for Jesus!!
