My Personal Testimony
I'm filled with peace knowing God is in control and it's not my mission to make others happy. God's given me a far greater job to share his love and trust that he will take care of the rest.
Before I gave my life to God, I placed my purpose in making others happy. I had a knack for encouraging people and I saw that as my mission. But sometimes, I couldn't do it. Things happened that no amount of positivity could change or heal. Each time I felt like I'd failed.
My friend lost his father to cancer when he was 13. When I met him he seemed numb to the world. I remember thinking, "I know I can make him happy". But he lived with a deep-rooted sadness that no amount of my love was ever going to change. This was hard for me to understand and accept in many of my friendships, some things are out of my control.
When I met my best friend, I knew there was something different about her. She was the most joyful person I'd ever known! Not only was she amazingly optimistic, she loved talking about her faith. She also began inviting me to her Youth Group events. One night, the pastor had us bow our heads and he said "It's not enough just to know of Jesus, have you accepted him as your savior?" My stomach turned. "Whoever in this room knows they have not yet accepted Jesus as their savior and made him the leader of their life I want you to raise your hand. Raise em' up!" I began to panic. As I sat there I realized ...I should be raising my hand. Before I knew it, my hand reached high into the air. That night I chose to make God the leader of my life.
Ever since that night, I've been filled with the peace of knowing God is in control. It's not my mission to make others happy. God's given me a far greater job to share his love and trust that he will take care of the rest.
Since I decided to trust God with every area of my life, he's guided me here to New York City to work in Children's Ministry. Amazingly enough, God has me sharing with kids the joy and excitement of His love the same way it was first shared with me.
Though I may fall short in loving others, God made a way for me and every one of us to be saved through His son Jesus. A greater love we'll never know.
