My Personal Testimony -- God is my refuge and strength
I came to know Jesus as my personal Savior after realizing that I was a sinner and needed to repent of my sins and follow Him. That happened after watching a Billy Graham movie, "The Restless Ones" when I was 10 years old. I have been very blessed to know Jesus and have felt an inner peace and His hand as I have walked through some very difficult situations during my lifetime. I look forward to joining Jesus in Heaven and living eternally.
I'm glad I have eternal life because Jesus gives me an inner peace, purpose in life, hope, and real, lasting happiness at all times and especially when the going gets tough. In my busy life as a physician who is involved in multiple volunteer organizations, I find great peace in being able to take any problem to God. He is always there for me and is concerned about every detail in my life.
In 2007 I felt a call to work with a physician friend in Kabul, Afghanistan in developing a Family Medicine residency program for Afghan physicians. I had a very stable and satisfying position as the Program Director of a residency program in Greenwood, South Carolina. The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan was a very volatile and dangerous country for Christians, so many friends advised me against going for the planned one year assignment. However, God gave me very clear guidance in my daily prayers and sent some amazing confirmations of my desire to heed the call: provided a job for my wife during the exact time interval needed; donor's offer to pay our mortgage payments while away; medical student sought training in Afghanistan. We had an amazing year in Afghanistan from July 2009 to June 2009 which confirmed our call to that country. Lives were changed, and the residency program continues to this day!
God continues to provide an inner peace and help me with every aspect of my life. I find great joy in serving Him as a physician, church member at McGregor Baptist Church, and throughout the world as a medical missionary. I cannot thank Him enough for sending his only Son to die so that my sins can be forgiven, and I will be able to join him in Heaven eternally!
