My Life with Jesus Christ
Before my eternal salvation my life was empty and meaningless. I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, and I was circling the drain (so to speak). I found my way to salvation through Jesus Christ on my Harley riding to a toy run. I told God I did not know what His plan was for me, but I was all His; and he led me quickly to His Son Jesus Christ. I no longer ride Harley's, but my life is full of joy and wonder at the free Grace bestowed upon on me by a most loving God in the form of the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Before I was saved by Jesus Christ, my life was spent chasing earthly pleasures, drunkenness and building up my ego.
Although I grew up in a family that went to church every Sunday, when I left home and went out into the world I got into some questionable behaviors and became an alcoholic and drug addict. Not only that, but my life became centered around physical pleasures and worldly possessions. I was a two time looser in the state of Texas and believe me a third DWI in Texas can be very serious.
I turned my back on that life and quit drinking and drugging cold turkey. I went into such bad DT's that I did not sleep and was unable to work. I jumped into the program so completely I knew the only way for me to get through the pain and misery was to turn my will and my life over to the care of God. The relief from my obsession for getting high was instantaneous and complete; so much so that I sought out Jesus on my own and was baptized less than six months later.
I now know I have eternal life through Jesus Christ, and that has completely changed my feelings about death. Death no longer is able to cause me to fear it, because I know that this eternal life is real and permanent. Personally, I am not willing to just sit and wait for it though. Knowing I have eternal life, and death has no hold on me gives me such joy I am constantly looking for ways to help people. This is why I am talking with people about Jesus and feel sharing the Gospel (Good News) is now the most important thing I can do with my life.
I had to undergo a surgical procedure to repair a very serious irregular heartbeat about two years after I was saved by the blood of Jesus. Although this was supposed to be a routing procedure, it was far from routine. The surgeon made a mistake, and I ended up with two holes in my heart. I bled out at a fatal rate and my heart stopped two times and I had to be resuscitated. I came out of an induced coma to learn of what had happened and spent eight days in ICU fighting for my life. During the time in ICU and six days in a step-down ward, I fought for my life; but I never experience the slightest amount of fear. I knew Jesus was with me the whole time.
I know I am not the only person to be in recovery for addiction, nor am I the only person who should by all intense purposes should have died. I am a retired IT professional with a lot of head knowledge. That was really vital for my career, but my eternal life is a whole lot more important of course. I know with absolute certainty that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried in a tomb and three days later was resurrected and raised into heaven so that I will have eternal life with Him. This is a knowledge that can only come from my heart as I walk with Jesus every minute of every day now.
