My God Story
I find assurance and certainty that I belong to God as one of his children. This assurance is based on the promise of the Bible for me as a believer. "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." John 5:24
I am glad that I have eternal life because I have a deep peace in my heart that God has forgiven me of my sin against Him. I know that I am not perfect but I also know that God is patient with me and He is always with me and patiently is leading me to become more like Jesus. God's presence in my life enables me to be confident that even when I fail Him and others He will never leave me or forsake me.
I went through a very dark period in my life when I struggled with depression. For several years I doubted my relationship with God. I could not find contentment and very rarely did I experience joy and contentment. I felt as if I would never be happy again. God allowed me to reach a very lonely and empty point in my life but used His word to bring me out of depression and return to a life of certain hope. This assurance came as He taught me that my eternal life was totally a free gift of grace that He gave me through the life and death of Christ and there was nothing I could do but accept this gift by faith.
I now experience the peace of God everyday. I know that I am a child of God because I trust Jesus and Jesus alone for my forgiveness and the certainty of eternal life.
