Margaret's Story
Prior to knowing Christ, my life was characterized by a series of failed relationships, which ultimately led me to the end of my own efforts at achieving happiness. After surrendering to God's plan for my life, I found joy, purpose, and the ability to enjoy deep and lasting relationships with others, but especially with Jesus.
Before I received Christ I was lost and unfulfilled, wandering aimlessly through life with no significant purpose.
I tried to fill my void with relationship after relationship. I was on my third divorce when I realized that I did not have life figured out. I didn't have the answers and the course I was on was too painful to continue.
As I contemplated suicide to solve my problems and end my pain, I had a thought occur to me from deep inside that basically said, "If you end your life it's over; why not give it to God instead?"
Now that I have eternal life, I have found my place in the human story and a purpose for my existence that brings great pleasure and significance.
After accepting God's gift of eternal life, I began to study the Bible and piece together what exactly had happened to me. I began sharing my understanding of what I read with others and saw that my contribution to their journey made a difference and impact. I started living my life for others rather than myself. I have now spent the last 32 years since my decision to give God my life instead of ending it enjoying one of the most rewarding, purposeful, and fulfilling lives anyone could ask for. I have also been gifted with a marriage that has lasted 25 years - something I never would have been able to do on my own, as I so painfully proved before my life with Christ.
I now know, unlike when I was considering suicide, that if I were to die today, I would spend eternity with God in Heaven. I know this not because my life radically changed and I did good things, but because Christ died for me so that I could ultimately go to Heaven but also so that I could do good things while I was still here on earth.
