Late bloomer…
It is never too late to become a believer…
Before receiving eternal life I had strong feelings of emptiness and lack of purpose for my life. I was about to turn 70 and felt something was missing. My thoughts were is this all there is?
Once day, in the midst of this worry and anxiety, an overwhelming sense of inner peace and calm came over me. It was a sensation of inner warmth, a “softening” of my heart (very hard to describe). It was like a switch being thrown. I started to read the Bible, search for and do online Bible studies, attend our local Bible study here in my retirement community. The more I read, the more changes I was making in my life. I strove to be more like Jesus. Some of my decisions were conscious but others just happened, like trying to be kinder, more positive and appreciative, grateful for my husband and my friends and my new life in Jesus. In hindsight, I believe that is the moment the Holy Spirit indwelled. My focus shifted from my accomplishments to my blessings from God. His plan, in His time.
Many of my new friends here were/are Christians. I was somewhat surprised that they were so concerned about salvation for their families and friends. But I had not always made good choices in the past, and the more I recalled those incidents, the more I knew I was a sinner. But the Good News is that God has mercy for we sinners and his Son Jesus Christ died to pay the price of our sins. As I have continued to learn how to pray and have conversations with God, I have asked for forgiveness for those sins and am trying very hard to not commit more! I thank God for the gift of grace and the sacrifice of His Son.
Now that I accept Jesus Christ as my savior, I have inner peace and and a sense of purpose and a different feeling about dying because of eternal life.
I know God has taken the wheel many times in my life when I didn’t know it. I know now that my LUCK is actually a blessing from God.
I know now that the better life promised by Jesus is eternal life and that I will join Him in heaven when I pass. His plan, His timing…
