It's NOT about ME!
Self-centered to Jesus-centered
Before I received eternal life I was very self-centered.
Either at work or in my personal life, it was all about me. When I was at work I was interested in my own success. I would see everyone around me as pieces in my own chess match. I would go to bed thinking about what I was going to do at work the next day and wake up thinking of the same thing. If I woke up in the middle of the night, I was up the rest of the night. It got so bad, I ended up taking OTC drugs to help me get and stay asleep. When I was with my family, I was with them physically but not mentally or emotionally.
After about seven years on the road for work, I found myself at an all-time low. I was empty inside, lonely, and numb to the people around me. I broke down on a plane homebound asking Jesus to take over my life and received eternal life.
Now that I have eternal life, I think more about loving God and others than I do myself.
A few months after receiving eternal life I was laid off from my lucrative job. For about a day I was hurt and worried about my family's future. And then it dawned on me that God had answered part of my prayer I made the day I received eternal life. I asked for a simple life, a life with purpose and meaning. This was one of the first steps God had planned for me. I was at peace. I began seeking out family members in an effort to reconcile relationships and share the good news of eternal life. I have no problems getting to sleep and staying asleep. These days the last thing I think about each day is the love and grace God gives me followed in the morning by thoughts of how I am going to demonstrate my love for God by loving others.
And now the best part, the eternal life that Jesus gave to me is free and it lasts forever. If I were to die right now, I know for certain that I’d be with God in heaven.
