"It is Finished": Free and Final
God's grace is a pool where my messy life marinates everyday.
Before I had eternal life, I was confused. because I thought I had eternal life all along.
Regular church attendance, volunteering in a homeless shelter and trying to stay clear of life’s “bad stuff” certainly stood for something.
Then I learned from Scripture that all of my good works are like filthy rags; and there is none who do good, not one. And it hit me: In light of God’s standard of perfection, no amount of good works can take away the fact that I am a sinner. And even my best intentions are not fully pure.
I then learned how one could have eternal life and it freed me from a life of “doing” to the life of Christ and His “done.” On the cross He said, “It is finished,” and those words are final and freeing for me.
Every day is a grace wake-up call for me. It’s not about my church attendance, my service, or even my evangelism. It’s about Christ. Period.
And now I know that if I were to die today I’d be with God in Heaven. Above and beyond my imperfect life and works, is Jesus imparting His perfect life to me.
