I Stopped Running Away
After accepting Christ as my Savior when I was a young teenager, I moved away from Him, and decided I could handle my own life. After many years and mistakes, He gave me the opportunity to return to Him. I am grateful that He didn't give up on me, and that He is by my side every day.
I am grateful I have eternal life, because I know where I'm going when I die. I also have peace, because I know that God is with me, each day, and I can pray to him for guidance in any situation. I also know from personal experience, that He can get me through any situation, and that I GROW from these experiences.
In the past, Carl and I had some difficulties between our personalities. When I was being treated for breast cancer, however, he was the most patient man I have ever known. I developed anxiety and panic attacks during radiation, and it was awful! But Carl patiently got me to all my appointments. During this time, Kaiser suggested I go to classes for anxiety and to see a psychiatrist. She put me on medication for depression, and something to ease my anxiety and panic attacks. Our lives changed drastically! Because of MY change of attitude and viewpoint, we stopped having arguments. I came to realize that, if I had not had breast cancer I would not have known that I needed depression medication - something I probably needed for a long time! - and that God had "used" my health situation to help me. Because of that, I don't view my cancer treatments as a "battle", but as a "journey". And I thank God for being by my side and walking me through each step!
I had accepted Christ when I was about 15. But I drifted from Him for many years. When my husband's daughter suggested we visit Crossroads, the first time we walked in the door I knew that I was coming home! This was in early 1999. In 2002 I re-dedicated my life to Him and was baptized again. I am confident that He has forgiven me for all those years, that He loves me abundantly, is with me every day, and that I will go to heaven when this life is over.
