Grace for the perfectionist/Overachiever
Grace for the perfectionist.
I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, and that all those who believe on Him and profess His Gospel as truth will share an eternal residence in heaven that is not a result of our own works or ability to produce salvation, but one that is a free gift of eternal life as a result of God's grace.
In high school, I struggled with severe depression, anxiety, OCD & eating disorders as a result of a dysfunctional childhood home life. Being a Christian since I was very young, I knew the right things to say and do, and I loved Christ with my whole being, but I deeply struggled with believing that I was truly loved and accepted by God and others because of my identity in Christ, which led me to compulsive behaviors such as hiding my true emotions, attempting to control my environment at all times, and over-achieve and push myself beyond my natural limits in an attempt to be accepted and whole. It wasn't until I truly accepted the grace of God for my entire self, including both the best and worst versions of myself that I was able to walk in true freedom and release myself from this immense internal pressure to achieve perfection, success and acceptance. Now that I am learning to separate my identity in Christ from my need and desire to achieve, perform and produce results, I am able to walk in true freedom from fear & perfectionism.
I have such a strong and confident faith in Christ, not only because of deep rooted in belief in what the Bible says, but also because I have seen God's hand working in my life and I have seen Him heal and fulfill my deepest wounds that resulted from my own sins or sins that were committed against me. I have seen the faithfulness of God in my life in ways that didn't make sense other than believing that the God of the Bible is real, true and working in my life.
