Goody Two Shoes to Jesus’ Goodness
I went from being a goody two shoes and trying to please others to being saved by the Lord and realizing His sacrifice is what saves me. I now seek to please Him and realize my good deeds are an outpouring of thanks for Him. Only Jesus can save me by His perfect life, death, and resurrection (defeat of death).
I’m so glad I have eternal life because knowing there are infinite years of my life (after death) gives me such purpose in living this temporary life in a way that seeks out honoring God above myself.
Before I knew the Lord, I lived my life as a goody two shoes. I tried to do the right thing because I wanted to please my parents, teachers, and be the best among my friend group. After coming to know Jesus as my savior, I have learned that “being good” is not something I can achieve on my own. Despite trying to do the right thing, I still sin, which means I am undeserving of Heaven. God is just, and so my punishment for my sin is to be cast into Hell. But in His mercy, God made a way for me to live with Him forever in Heaven. He sent me Jesus, who lived a perfect life, and then chose to die in my place, though He didn’t have to take on this cruel and painful punishment. But Christ loves with a love beyond any love anyone else can love. I am so grateful. Now I do good things in order to please Him (rather than trying to please others). Good deeds don’t save me from Hell, but Jesus’ perfect blood does. My good deeds are an outpouring of thanksgiving for all He has done for me. I love to get to know Him more and more each day and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help in becoming more like Him daily.
It is incredibly reassuring to have the gift of eternal life. I need not fear what will happen to me when I die only due to faith in God’s act of love to save me. It has nothing to do with me, other than the choice to accept that Jesus paid the price for me to be in Heaven forever.
