God supplies our needs
God helps a military family through a difficult time.
In Christ I found inner peace and a purpose for my life. I trust that His plan is at work no matter what is happening around me.
I remember the day my husband called to tell me that he'd been scheduled for another surgery to repair his neck and the doctor had said that this second one would be more difficult and much more painful than the first. After the call, I walked out into our backyard to get away from the children and to pray. As I prayed I heard the Lord tell me that my parents, who had helped care for our children during the first surgery a few years before, would not be available to help, but He would take care of us. We'd really needed their support and help the first time. After that surgery, husband had suffered great pain and the recovery period had stretched all of us to the limit as we struggled to help him find relief from what seemed like an extended nightmare. Even after the healing was complete, he was never fully pain free. I grabbed a hold of the promise that God gave to care for us and began to prepare. We had three young children and two teens. Our home, on an Air Force base in California, was several hours from the hospital and a thousand miles from home. When my parents said that they couldn't get free to help with the grandchildren, once again I remembered God's promise to watch over us and began to look for options. Hotel reservations, a rental car to provide a more comfortable ride home, someone to care for the kids, all went on my to-do list. God supplied. A friend approached us, her daughter had experience as a nanny and would like to watch our children at no charge. A neighbor came over with the number for the Fischer House located next to the hospital. When I called, they had space for us. We'd have a room for the night before the surgery and could stay until my husband was discharged. They suggested that I bring my oldest son to help and made space for him too. Their volunteers supplied hot meals and kept healthy snacks available as needed. My husband's surgery was a success. The threat of increased pain post-surgery and a more difficult recovery gave way to an more manageable reality. He had feared addiction to the narcotic based pain killers, but was able to discard them for safer medications after the first week. His neck healed better this time and the day to day pain has been reduced.
God walks with us through difficult days and continues to fill our lives with peace and strength for each new day and the promise of a future home in heaven at the end of journey.
