God Story
The role of Identity
After accepting christ at a young age I can testify that it has made a huge impact on my life today. In my everyday life I found comfort knowing when I am face to face with God I will hear " Good Job my faithful servent". Knowing that I have the gift of eternal life makes me feel a since of purpose making sure my actions best reflect the love of Jesus.
In my high school life, basketball was my identity. I strived to be the best player I could possibly be. Going on to my second year of high school, I got the good news that I was going to play on the varsity team. I was excited for the opportunity and changed how I went about my life, putting the sport of basketball first. After my sophomore year, I thought it could only get better. Going into my junior year, I had high expectations of myself. I thought basketball was going to be my future, but I ended up getting benched for the season. Being on the bench made me mad about every aspect of my life. I stopped reading my bible and stopped relying on God. After my last game as a junior, I came home and had a conversation with my dad. I was so frustrated with myself and started to bawl my eyes out. My dad then shared a passage of scripture, Jeremiah 29:11, which basically says God knows our plans and when it may seem difficult, know it will only shape how you are in the future. After this, I got back on track with God and felt the call of some sort of ministry. During this time, I found out that I should not be putting my identity in a sport but in Jesus, the Savior of the world.
The same peace I felt when placing my identity in Jesus is felt daily. I can confidently say that God has good plans for me. Even when times get hard, I know that God has a purpose for me in my life. Once I die and stand face to face with God, I know I will be with Him for eternity.
