God's Purpose for My Life

I'm glad I have eternal life because it gives me a purpose for living in the midst of uncertainty.

During my first two years of high school, I struggled with what I should do with my life and the purpose for living. I didn't know how to answer people when they asked me about my future plans, and I also envied other high school students who seemed to have their life goals "all figured out." This prompted me to ask myself some questions, like "What did God want me to do with my life?" "What career was I supposed to have?" "What was I supposed to do after high school?" I longed for the day when I would have all the answers. Then God started showing me things through His Word, books He placed in my life, and conversations He allowed me to have with people. During this time, my Dad challenged me and my brother to read Destiny by Tony Evans and discuss a chapter with him each week. Through the conversations we had together, the many books I was reading, and personal study with God, God showed me that I wasn't supposed to know all of the answers because He already did. The purpose for my life was to glorify God and to display His glory to others around me. If I focused on displaying His glory, knowing Him, and seeking Him, He would direct my steps. All I had to do was trust God with my life. If I didn't know for certain that I had eternal life during these years, I would've only had more questions, discouragement, and anxiety.

That's why I'm so glad to know for certain that I do have eternal life; I know that there is a true purpose to life, and that is to glorify God. I can trust the same God who will allow me to experience eternal life in heaven to bestow me with an abundant, fulfilling, and gospel driven life here on earth, because He knows that this will cause me to make His glory known to those around me.
