From self centered substance abuse to heaven
By the saving grace of Christ, my sins have been washed away so that I may stand in the light of His glory without fear of death or regret from substance abuse.
Before I received eternal life, my life had little purpose and I was full of regret and insecure.
During hard times I felt something was missing and I would have an urge to pray. I never felt like I deserved to ask God for help, so instead I used drugs and alcohol. I was living a selfish life of sin that I couldn't even see.
Then I learned that eternal life and the peace that accompanies it was a free gift that didn't require anything to be deserved.
With the gift of eternal life I now have purpose and understand what God wants for my life.
As a firefighter I respond to traumatic incidents, the effects of which have accumulated into PTSD. Several years ago I witnessed the tragic and untimely death of a colleague. Many who were with me have been on a path of self destruction trying to avoid dealing with it. I was able to find peace from the effects of PTSD by resting in the fact that God's plan for our lives extends beyond the grave. For him, me, for anyone who opens their hearts to Jesus and His mercy that peace is available.
I know if I were to die right now that my eyes would close on earth and open in heaven. And the same is true for my children as they each choose to accept Jesus as their lord and savior.
