From Alcoholism to Living Water
God delivered me from alcoholism and grief to being filled with the Holy Spirit and a intimate loving relationship with Jesus.
Praise be to God my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I thank God for my life and how He has kept me alive. I am so grateful to know that I will spend eternity with Jesus. God is the center of my life and has a tremendous influence on me spiritually.
I will like to give a testimony about how God has delivered me from an alcohol addiction. In October 2020, my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I began to drink heavily to cope with the thoughts of losing my mother. My mother was the closest person to me because I am not married and don’t have any children. In March 2022, she passed away and I began to drink everyday for grief and sleep. My family and friends did not comfort me the way that I needed during the funeral and afterwards. The church I attended was so big that I did not have any relationships to ask someone to come and pray for me. I felt alone. No one could understand the pain in my heart. I could not smile or thank God about anything. I prayed that God would deliver me from grief constantly. I kept praying psalm 34:18 “God is close to the broken hearted.” Online I met and hired a spiritual life coach whose mother had passed away from the same disease and gained insight on how she made it through this difficult time. She directed me back to God and to reading the word of God daily and get closer to Him. She prayed for me weekly and I started feeling better. In February 2023, I decided that I would fast and pray for 40 days. God sent me on a mission’s trip to Uganda to serve special needs kids. One of the kids there gave the verse Luke 10:19, “God has given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy.” I had never heard that verse before, but I used it in my prayer time. After returning home, God gave me a spark in my soul to keep living and press on. However, in the fall of 2023 I started to get depressed again and started back drinking. In 2024, I finally gave up and I started back drinking wine. It started to affect my health. I saw my body deteriorate. It was hard for me to walk from weight gain. I resigned from my job because I was unable to function properly. I needed to focus on my healing. I had hit rock bottom and didn’t have any hope on living the rest of my life. In January 2025 I fasted and prayed one last time that I would never drink again. Thanks to God I have not had anything to drink in 6 months and I am now closer to God than I have ever been before. 1 Peter 5:10 was the verse that gave me hope, “After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be].”
God is so faithful. What I love about Him is He stays the same. It doesn’t matter what you have done, He loves you with everlasting love. Because He never changes, we can always run to him. If God be for you, than who can be against you. Although I was living in sin God’s presence was with me in every day. Now, I falling in love with being in the presence of God. My word of encouragement to you is to keep fighting, praying, stay in the word of God. He will deliver you and make you what you ought to be.
Your testimony matters too
