Freedom Through Forgiveness
After being hurt by betrayal, I struggled with anger and the desire to hate, but through God’s Word and the example of David’s mercy toward Saul, I chose forgiveness over bitterness and experienced the freedom that comes from remembering God’s grace in my own life.
I am grateful for the gift of eternal life because I know God loves me, even though I do not deserve His forgiveness. He not only forgives my countless sins, but also calls me His child and makes me part of His family.
I once had a boyfriend who cheated on me. I was deeply hurt and wanted to hate him—especially since all my friends said I had every right to. One Sunday, I heard the story of David sparing Saul’s life even when he had the chance to take revenge. It struck me. I went home and cried to God, remembering how He forgives me again and again, even when I repeat my own sins. Slowly, I chose to let go of my anger. I reached out to the girl he cheated with, listened to her explanation, and in the end said, “It’s okay. I’m not mad anymore, and I let him go. Just promise me you’ll love him well.” Forgiving didn’t mean it didn’t hurt—but it set my heart free.
I know that my salvation does not depend on my own goodness, but on God’s grace through Jesus Christ. Because I have placed my faith in Him, I am assured of His forgiveness and His promise of eternal life. I am confident that one day I will be in heaven with God—not because I deserve it, but because He is faithful to keep His word.
