Don't Be Anxious
I was a worrier, but found through my relationship with Christ I could be a peace in all situations.
I worried a lot about things when in high school. I was having trouble with my stomach and the doctor told me if I did not quit worrying about things, I would end up with ulcers.
I remember worrying about my mom when she found out she had cancer. Although I prayed for her, I was worried she would not get well.
When I joined the United States Air Force in January 1968, I began attending Base Chapel Services and even attended a local church. I soon realized my worry came from not having a relationship with Jesus Christ. In September of 1968, I drove the bus for a Base Chapel Youth Retreat and while there, I heard these kids telling stories about how God had changed their lives. I realized I needed what they had and I accepted Christ.
Now that I have eternal life, I don't worry like I did, but have complete peace.
On a flight to VietNam in May 1969, the airplane we were on experienced mechanical problems upon takeoff from Yokoto, Japan. An eminent fatal crash was expected with some 288 soldiers, sailors and airmen on board. Even as it appeared we would die that day, I had complete peace. Philippians 4:6 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
Even if we would have crashed that day, I knew if I died I would be in Heaven with Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.
