By God's grace, always.
Being a good person won't get you into heaven. It's only through repentance, and faith in what Jesus did on the cross of Calvary. He shed His blood so that you and I could have eternal life in heaven, by accepting it personally, it's a gift, and we have to reach out by faith and accept it. This is the most important decision in life that is available to all.
Before I accepted Christ there was guilt, shame, and low self esteem.
Knowing that you are loved, sometimes isn't enough. So you seek fulfillment in other ways, or from those who build you up instead of tearing you down.
I was invited to church, and for the first time heard the gospel in such a way, that I knew I was lost and needed to be saved. I went forward when the invitation was given and repented of my sin and accepted Christ into my heart as my savior.
I had a peace in my soul, knowing if and when I died, I would go to heaven.
Knowing that I was saved by faith through grace, and not by anything that I had done, but that Jesus did on the cross just for me, made it easier to share my faith with others, mostly in song.
I know that I am saved because my spirit bears witness with the Holy Spirit that dwells within me, and I have a peace in my heart that can't be taken away!
