A Few Miles Between Nothing and Everything.
A story about a young man confused about how to feel about the world and his place in it turned bleeding heart and stalwart Christian in only a few miles.
Before I was saved, I was extremely numb to emotions like sadness and love.
I remember a girl who fell in love with the idea of me during a long distance friendship. I had told her time and again it wouldn't work and that I wouldn't be a good boyfriend. I had no idea what to say to her or how to feel about her. I had dated before and I had ran into the same problems. I just couldn't feel anything for her, even after she proved she felt so much for me.
Eventually, she did help me figure it out. It was done mostly through God as we did devotionals together. During my relationship with her, I had experienced a wide swath of emotions; all the way from a deep love to a very hard and difficult pain and in many ways I learned how Christ had experienced the same.
Now I can see the beauty in all things. Life has a greater meaning and I have a greater purpose.
One early morning, just after my breakup, I was driving home from my night shift at work. The day before I was a counselor at a college summer camp which had inverted my hours. I didn't sleep before starting my shift. I fell asleep at the wheel going 70 on a two lane road, my car rolled 4-6 times, no airbags deploying, every window blown out and every panel dented. As I look back, I realize how much of a miracle that was. How God needed me for something else.
While I am imperfect and in some ways still suffer from temptation and sin, I know God can see the man he redeemed. I try every day to ensure he gets the value he paid for. And I know he knows.
