I have known Christ since I was a young child. To be honest, I don't know what life would be like without Him. He gives me a purpose in life and the strength and peace to accomplish that purpose.
That does not mean that my life has been free of struggle, pain, or sin. Growing up as a child of God means I have a lot of learning to do. Growing up, I remember seeing my father at the kitchen table reading the Bible every morning. I learned from him the value scripture has for living life as Christ intended. Still, I've made mistakes. Each time I realize that I have made choices that are not leading me toward the goals God has for my life, I have to work hard to repent and change my actions and thoughts.
I learned in the value of community and accountability in seeking this goal in college. I also began to see some of the ways God would use me in the lives of others to encourage them to be more like Christ as well. I found a need for help in a youth ministry at a local high school. I found that I love to see people grow and mature as Christ followers. I have continued encouraging and discipling through youth ministry and small group bible studies for quite a number of years now and can't think of anything I'd rather do.
As I have said, life is not without pain and difficulties. My mom was diagnosed with cancer over 4 years ago. It was very difficult for my family to face the uncertainty of her future, the pain she would undergo through treatments and the possibility of losing her. Even so, a peace bound my family together, knowing that even if cancer took this life from her, we would see her again for eternity.
All in all, life has been an adventure full of learning, seeking and trusting. It's not easy, but Christ always gives me the offer of peace for today and hope for eternity.
