Before I had a relationship with Jesus I wrestled with coming from an unhappy home and feeling alone.
I was a quite child and kept to myself and my siblings. My mother was very caring and loving. However, my father was not happy with his life. He did not have a strong relationship with his family. As a result, he was distant from his own family and turned to liquor to ease the pain. I never really knew who he was.
My mother had always included church as part of our growth process. We attended Sunday school regularly. Because of the effects of my father's alcohol use on the family, I turned to church as an outlet.
Through this experience, I decided that I would never allow any substance to interfer with God's plan for my life.
I recall being invited to a gathering after work where I knew liquor would be served. I didn't feel nervious or out of place because others were drinking. I attended and was able to have a great time without indulging.
I have felt the covering of God my entire life. As a result of this experience, I know he continues to cover me through His Son Jesus Christ.
